This last weekend, Powerplay DJ got the chance to play at one of the newest venues in the Fargo/Moorhead area, Rustic Oaks! Rustic Oaks is located 10 miles South of Moorhead on Highway 75, and lies right on the Red River. This was just the second wedding to be held at Rustic Oaks since it’s opening. The dance was held in the second story of an old barn with a huge deck overlooking the banks of the Red River. The reception and ceremony were held outside amongst the trees and flowers, which were a beautiful backdrop for the wonderful couple, Jenny and Chad. The dance was a blast, and it was exciting to have the opportunity to play at this unique venue!

Powerplay DJ was recently asked to provide services for the annual Midwest Kids Fest held at beautiful Island Park in downtown Fargo. Midwest Kids Fest is an all day event for kids and their families to participate in. We were there providing karaoke entertainment for the guests. After a slow start, the singing picked up and we were busy all day!  The weather cooperated beautifully for the all day event, which is always a blessing in June! It was great to see so many families participate!

Powerplay DJ had the great opportunity to do the Fargo Park District Block Parties again this summer! There were a total of six Block Parties (great family outings) which were held at six of the beautiful parks in Fargo. Each week we were at a different park, and with each week brought nicer weather! Along with great weather, we had some great singers! Kids sang their hearts out to Taylor Swift, Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, and many other artists. We has a blast working with the Fargo Park District and cannot wait until next summer!

Recently the University of Minnesota – Morris put on a dance with the theme “80’s Prom”.  What a riot!  We played lots of hits from the 80’s of course, including hit tunes from Poison, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Paula Abdul, and of course Michael Jackson. It was fun to go back in time for a night and the students definitely dressed the part.  The dance was put on by the Theater/Arts group at UMM, and quite a few of the students dressed up as cliche high schoolers (cheerleader, jock, nerd, etc.). They even crowned a prom king and queen!  This dance was a lot of fun to DJ!  Thanks for booking Powerplay DJ for this fun event.

New Years Eve was surely a memorable time for Powerplay DJ this year.  We have a two weddings, two karaoke parties at Teamsters and Johny’s Lounge, and one party at the Captains Pub in Valley City.  I had the honor to do the dance at the Captains Pub in Valley City.  It proved to be a great time.  We pumped up the New Year, all made resolutions for the next year, and brought in the New Year the only way it should be done;  with Powerplay DJ doing your event!  There was no question about it, the only place to be in Valley City on New Years Eve was the Captains Pub.

Pink Sale at the mall!

The afterhours “Pink Sale” at Victoria Secret inside West Acres Mall was A LOT of fun, pink is my new favorite color! Customers came out in droves for special deals and I’m sure the music helped some too, we cranked it up about 5:45, just before the mall closed…with our Bose sound system, the whole building heard what was going on! The Victoria Secret gals and their customers enjoyed the atmosphere. When the sales ladies asked to do the Cupid Shuffle… we knew it would be a huge hit! Dozens of curious shoppers stopped dead in their tracks to get a glimpse. If shopping were this much fun all the time I’d do it more often. Special thanks to Brittany, Aubrey & Mirela for thinking of us when they needed in-store entertainment!

David and Kristina Badgely

This year we performed for our first-ever Halloween wedding in Mooreton, ND for David and Kristina Badgely. It was very interesting, considering the wedding party and guests were dressed in costume! The reception hall was decorated with a mix of Halloween decorations & traditional wedding garniture which blended together quite well! The dance was a lot of fun. We did a lot of group participation dances and “Thriller” was a big hit. All in all I must say it was a lot of fun, and a completely new experience as a Disc Jockey…It will definitely go down as one of the most unique & memorable weddings.

The fight against cancer. Once again Powerplay DJ gladly donated their services for the annual Relay For Life event to help raise money to fight cancer. This year the Relay was moved to later in the summer to try and avoid June rains, and it turned out to be a good move. We provided music and karaoke from 6pm to 6am for the hundreds of supporters (many of whom camped out) at the Schlossman Family YMCA-West, a wonderful place to hold the event.
